On Friday, Nov. 7 we visited a Mayan village in the province of Escuintla.

This is the view from the hill at the top of the village.

One of the village homes. These people live in poverty, but they do have running water and electricity.

This native girl showed us her kitchen.

The children followed us around and liked to look at their pictures on our digital cameras. We gave some of them a ride in the back of the pick-up, much to their delight.

It was a very interesting drive! The "road" was a rutted dirt lane, and we forded several creeks along the way. We have a load of bamboo in the bed, which was the purpose of the trip. Our friend, Carlos, bought bamboo from the villagers and needed a truck to transport the load.
